Morgan's Story: Living with ME/CFS

One day, I was just sitting at work when I suddenly felt super lightheaded. I checked my heart rate, and it was 190, just sitting at my desk. It kept happening, and I couldn't drive for more than 10 minutes without feeling like I was going to pass out.

I missed so much work, and my days became focused on just surviving, I’d go to work and then come straight home.

The Science Behind ME/CFS Recovery

In ME/CFS, the nervous system can get stuck in a chronic stress response. The issue may be functional rather than structural. Your nervous system may be locked in protection mode, making even normal activities feel overwhelming. This is what keeps symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and pain cycling.

Nervous system retraining uses neuroplasticity, your brain's ability to rewire itself, to help shift out of that stuck state. Instead of just managing symptoms, it works to address what may be driving them. That's where meaningful progress can begin.

Research on neuroplasticity-based interventions has shown measurable improvements in autonomic nervous system function. A 2021 review in Frontiers in Neuroscience confirmed that the adult brain retains significant capacity for rewiring, even after prolonged dysfunction. Voss et al., 2021

Morgan's Recovery Update: Running, Cycling, and Living Without Limits

Morgan's follow-up shows what recovery looks like when you keep building on it. When she was in the thick of her illness, she couldn't do anything beyond work. It was pure survival mode. Dizziness, high heart rate, a doctor even suggested a pacemaker.

Now she's running, cycling, and doing strength training without any issues. She takes long walks, enjoys activities with friends and family, and lives life without the fear that used to define every day.

She's still working on a few things, but that's the nature of recovery. It's not about perfection. It's about progress. And Morgan's progress speaks for itself.

"I can now work out, run, cycle, and do strength training without any issues."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you recover from ME/CFS?

Many people have. Morgan is one of thousands of documented recovery wins across CFS Recovery's community. Through nervous system retraining and neuroplasticity protocols, people with ME/CFS are recovering every day. CFS Recovery has helped people from bedridden to semi-functional and everywhere in between.

What is nervous system retraining?

Nervous system retraining uses neuroplasticity principles to help your brain and nervous system shift out of a stuck stress response. In ME/CFS, the nervous system often gets locked in a protective mode after a viral trigger or prolonged stress. Retraining helps it recalibrate, which may allow your body to start functioning more normally. It's coaching-based, not medication-based.

How severe was Morgan's condition before recovery?

Morgan was dealing with ME/CFS at a moderate level, experiencing symptoms like extreme fatigue, heart palpitations (up to 190 bpm at rest), dizziness. Watch the full recovery interview to hear the story in their own words.
