What Internal Tremors and Vibrations Feel Like

Internal tremors are strange because other people can't see them. There's a buzzing, humming, or shaking sensation deep inside your body, but when you look at your hands they're often perfectly still. People describe it in different ways: a phone vibrating inside the chest, a motor running under the skin, a quiver in the core, or a fine trembling that seems to come from the bones.

It can show up almost anywhere. The chest and stomach are common. So are the legs, the hands, and the whole body at once. For some people it's constant. For others it comes in waves, often when they're tired, stressed, or trying to fall asleep.

But after a virus, a long stretch of stress, or a major health scare, the nervous system can get stuck in fight or flight. Instead of switching off, the alarm keeps running in the background. The adrenaline keeps trickling out. And that low-grade, constant activation shows up as the internal tremor.

Standard tests are built to find structural problems: damage, disease, clear physical abnormalities. They're not designed to pick up a nervous system that's simply running in the wrong mode.

How to Calm Internal Tremors

Calming internal tremors isn't about forcing them to stop. It's about sending your nervous system enough signals of safety that it eases out of high alert on its own. Here's what tends to help.

Change your response first. This is the big one. The next time you feel the buzzing, practice meeting it with calm instead of alarm. A simple internal phrase like "this is just adrenaline, it's not dangerous, it will pass" can interrupt the fear-tremor loop. You're not ignoring the symptom. You're telling your nervous system there's no emergency.

Use your breath. Slow breathing with a longer out-breath than in-breath is one of the most direct ways to nudge the body toward "rest and digest." Try breathing in for a count of four and out for a count of six or eight. A few minutes can take the edge off a surge.

Add warmth and gentle movement. A warm shower, a heat pack, or a slow walk can help discharge some of the nervous energy and signal safety to the body. Gentle is the key word. The goal is to soothe the system, not push it.

Pace and protect your baseline. The push-crash cycle keeps the nervous system activated. Each crash is another jolt of alarm. Pacing steady, manageable activity teaches the system that life is safe again, which slowly lowers the background adrenaline.

Retrain the system over time. The most lasting change comes from consistent nervous system retraining. Structured daily practice gradually shifts the system out of its stuck high-alert pattern and into calm. As the system regulates, the tremor usually fades into the background and, for many people, disappears.

None of this is a quick fix, and progress comes in cycles, not a straight line. But the direction is clear. As the nervous system settles, the buzzing settles with it.
